Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team followed a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
