The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Frustration About Sizing Modifications
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.
This online marketplace has altered its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Response
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category than originally posted due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with other platforms.
The platform has recommended to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Updates
Before the change, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Stories
Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Another user, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.
Manual Updates
A different user, located in England, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and Vinted sales have been crucial following partial earnings loss," she stated.
Service Background
The platform boasts over 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: previously, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
